Community Arts

Community Arts include projects and initiatives which include the entire community. They are open to anyone who wishes to explore their creativity and develop a taste for artistic expression. These initiatives are created to aid in the development and exploration of artistic skills. The projects are based on the interest level of the participants. They focus on the development of confidence and knowledge in the expression of artistic talents. This series includes a variety of art forms from visual arts to media, from spectacle to traditional.

The Digital Production programs and workshops includes hands on experiential learning which is augmented by the production of new works. As with all programming, the Digital Production program is facilitated by Indigenous media professionals in a culturally appropriate environment. Participants will be encouraged to create video works based in the culture and their expression of their creativity. This programming includes a variety of digital arts including video, multi media, animation and photography.

This programming is based on professional development of more experienced artists in all genres. These initiatives are created to aid in the creation of arts, which are for the purpose of dissemination, and the enhancement of the artist’s career. Language and Culture

Community Elders, Artists and cultural facilitators participate in all ICMI programming. Together with the learners they share in an exchange of ideas, language, stories and traditional knowledge.

All initiatives contain knowledge based in the Indigenous culture, an exploration of the appropriate language and delivered in an Indigenous specific and appropriate learning style and environment.

All initiatives contain the development of lifeskills. In the holistic nature of Indigenous learning all aspects of the participant’s life are developed including the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical. Workshops and curriculum are developed in all divisions of ICMI programming to meet these needs.

Lifeskills

All ICMI programs consist of the following lifeskills and employment skill outcomes:

ICMI’s programming values cross over all its projects. Youth/Women programming aids participants in developing and disseminating original works. Artists’ professional development includes the mentoring of youth and entry-level artists. Mentorships are created based on the needs of the participants in all program areas. Participants have the freedom to approach ICMI in the development of their personal, holistic artistic development. ICMI works with each individual to facilitate artistic, professional and personal growth.
